Employees and guests will be required to wear masks in public areas (they’ll provide one for free if you don’t have one), and everyone will undergo temperature checks via thermal scanners at the casino.

Employee and Guest Health & Safety at Forefront of Capital Region Resort’s Reopening

(Prince George’s County, Md. – June 23, 2020) – MGM National Harbor – MGM Resorts International’s (NYSE: MGM) (“MGM Resorts”) luxury resort and casino located in the heart of the nation’s Capital Region – will reopen to the general public at 6:00am on Monday, June 29 following its closure earlier this year amidst the coronavirus crisis. A hosted, invitation-only event will take place ahead of the public reopening. MGM National Harbor’s amenity offerings initially will be limited with plans to open additional venues in the coming weeks and months.

“The last several months have been challenging for the entire world, including our employees and the surrounding DMV community. Health & Safety

In May, MGM Resorts released its comprehensive “Seven-Point Safety Plan,” a multi-layered set of protocols and procedures designed in conjunction with medical and scientific experts to mitigate the spread of the virus, protect customers and employees and rapidly respond to potential new cases. As time passes, the company will continue to evaluate and evolve its safety protocols. Key initiatives from the MGM Resorts plan as well as specific to MGM National Harbor include:

·Employee screening, temperature checks and COVID-19 specific training

·Employees and guests will be required to wear masks in public areas. Masks will be provided free of charge

·Guest temperature checks at casino floor entrances and hotel front desk

·A physical distancing policy will be implemented, with floor guides serving as reminders

·For areas where physical distancing presents challenges, plexiglass barriers will be installed, or other measures will be used to reduce risks

·Standalone handwashing stations designed by MGM Resorts conveniently located on the casino floor

·Contactless Check-In through the MGM Resorts App will allow hotel guests to go through the check-in process on their personal devices, minimizing interactions

·Guestroom Attendants will wear masks and gloves while cleaning each room and will change gloves between guestrooms

·In addition to increased and enhanced routine cleaning of guestrooms and public spaces based on CDC guidance, electrostatic sprayers will be utilized in many large public spaces so that disinfectant is applied efficiently

·Digital menus will be available to view on personal mobile devices via QR codes in the resort’s food and beverage outlets

·To minimize groups congregating while they wait, restaurant guests will receive text message notification when their tables are ready

·MGM has compiled its own internal team and processes to respond if a guest or employee tests positive for COVID-19. We ask that if a guest tests positive after visiting one of our properties, they alert us through a special email address (covid19@mgmresorts.com). We will immediately report any positive test results to the local health department and assist with contact tracing to support the health department investigators.

Per the Governor’s guidelines, the property will adhere to a 50% capacity limit.

A glimpse at what guests can expect:

·ROOMS & SUITES – Relax in one of MGM National Harbor’s rooms and suites, featuring panoramic views of the Potomac River and the Capital Region. Digital innovations will allow guests to utilize contactless check-in and digital key features. Guests will have their temperature checked at the hotel front desk.

·CONSERVATORY & POTOMAC PLAZA – Explore MGM National Harbor’s Conservatory, which will present “Blossoms and Butterflies,” paying homage to the world-famous cherry blossom trees. Potomac Plaza, offering panoramic views of the DMV, will also be accessible. For guest safety, new traffic patterns and physical distancing protocols will be in place.

·GAMING – Place your bets in MGM National Harbor’s 160,000-square-foot casino, including slots and table games. To promote physical distancing, every other slot machine will be disabled, and plexiglass barriers have been installed at many of the table games. At security checkpoints to enter the casino floor, guests will have their temperature checked via thermal scanner. Poker will not be available in this first phase of reopening.

·DINING – Enjoy a selection of MGM National Harbor’s dining venues, including Voltaggio Brothers Steak House, Ginger, the food hall at National Market, and Bellagio Patisserie. Guests will utilize digital innovations such as QR codes for menus and text messaging for reservations.

·BEVERAGE – A number of the resort’s lounges will be available, including Blossom Felt Bar & Lounge and the Lobby Bar.

The MGM National Harbor is a US$1.4 billion resort in the Oxon Hillcensus-designated place (CDP) in unincorporated Prince George's County, Maryland.^[1] The resort opened on December 8, 2016,^[2] and is owned by MGM Growth Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International.^[3][4][5]

History[edit]

MGM Resorts International received a license in December 2013 to develop a US$925 million resort (later increased to US$1.2 billion^[4][5]) in National Harbor.^[3][5] The company received the license after competing with bids from Penn National Gaming to develop a US$700 million facility at its Rosecroft Raceway and Greenwood Racing to develop a US$761 million facility near Maryland Route 210.^[5]

Construction on MGM National Harbor began in April 2014, and opened on December 8, 2016.^[2][4]

MBE participation[edit]

In April 2015, the MGM casino was sued by a group of Prince George’s County businesses^[6] who claimed the casino didn't comply with minority business enterprise (MBE) contracting standards.^[7][8]

Child electric shock[edit]

On June 26, 2018 a seven-year-old girl suffered traumatic brain injury while visiting the casino. Due to a faulty installation of a device meant to control the electrical flow to the rail lighting, Zynae Green suffered an electric shock and was left wheelchair bound. Despite the family's pleas for help, MGM security did not initiate resuscitation, MGM stating 'the guards followed protocol responding to the incident and determined that Zynae was breathing and did not need CPR'. Prince George's County Police Officers started resuscitation upon arrival. The incident prompted an FBI investigation and the family has not been compensated more than a year after the incident.^[9]

Cheating[edit]

In 2019, a baccarat dealer who worked at the casino was sentenced to 18 months in prison for a cheating scheme. Ming Zhang showed his co-conspirators cards before they were dealt, who split the winnings with him.^[10]

Boxing death[edit]

Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died on July 23, 2019, from injuries suffered during a July 19 boxing match at the Theater at MGM National Harbor.^[11]

Robbery of winners[edit]

In 2020, two winners were robbed of more than $40,000 in winnings after leaving the casino and shot during the crime. The victims were followed by the assailants from the casino and robbed in Woodbridge, Virginia, where one of them lived and the other was shot. ^[12]

Design[edit]

The white exterior of the building is in keeping with the marble used in many of the buildings in Washington DC. The organization of the casino is along a central axis, similar to the arrangement for the National Mall.^[13] The design was provided by HKS, Inc. while the architect of record for the project is SmithGroupJJR.^[14]

Features[edit]

MGM National Harbor includes a 23-story hotel with 308 rooms, 135,000 square feet (12,500 m²) in gaming space, retail space, a spa, seven restaurants, a 3,000-seat theater with seven VIP suites, 27,000 square feet (2,500 m²) of meeting and event space, and a parking garage for 4,800 cars.^[3][4]

The resort's public spaces feature a permanent collection of art inspired by the Washington metropolitan area and developed in collaboration with Prince George's County Arts and Humanities Council, Atlantic Arts, and RareCulture.^[15][16] Artists, sculptors, and photographers featured in the collection include Alice Aycock, Charles Hinman, Chul Hyun Ahn, John Safer, Liao Yibai, Margaret Boozer, Martha Jackson Jarvis, Sam Gilliam, and Terry O'Neill.^[15][16] The west entrance to the facility features a 25-by-15-foot (7.6 m × 4.6 m) iron archway composed of 'found objects' such as farming tools, children's toys, wheels and axes designed by Bob Dylan.^[17]

On December 18, 2016, the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant was held at the resort theatre.^[18]

Since 2017, American singer and actress, Cher, has been performing her Classic Cher concert residency at The Theater at MGM National Harbor.^[19]

On July 12 and 13, 2018, Britney Spears performed two concerts as part of her Piece of Me Tour.^[20]

On September 30, 2018, Christina Aguilera performed a concert as part of her Liberation Tour.^[21]

On March 31, 2019, Mariah Carey performed a concert as a part of her Caution World Tour.^[22]
